Colorado Sunset | Coco + Jaimeson
Several years ago when I worked at Buckle, I was introduced to Coco + Jaimeson. I fell in love with this brand immediately and it remained my favorite brand that we carried. They had many delicate, feminine florals that excited and inspired me. I’d often find myself wandering through outdoor shopping centers and mountain parks just so I could wear their pieces out in nature.
I received this incredible dress and felt as if I belonged amongst the tall grasses and the sunlight.
What are you doing here, lovely girl?
Have I ever told you, I love how you see the world?
There are moments where you love everything and everyone
but there are others where you cannot smile at anyone
you give so much yet take so little
how can you be so powerful yet feel so brittle?
I never can understand your frame of mind
you hold a fierceness in a heart that’s always so kind
there is a depth to you that not many have seen
there was a time where you wished to make it on the big screen
but the idea of losing yourself was too big a scare
what if people looked at you and saw a simplicity that was just too bare?
You needed to become what everyone admired
even if the outcome wasn’t what you desired
what did you desire, lovely girl?
…you wanted to receive just as much love as you gave
you wanted a boy that would type your number and quickly hit “save”
you wished to be free of fear and live in a world full of bliss
your hands demanded to create art and your neck to hold the stain of a kiss
you love the idea of wine on a back porch surrounded by birds
you make your living by sharing your soul within your words…
You love slow mornings with coffee and a book
you love when he gives you that look
the one where he stares for a moment, then smiles magnificently
and then waits for you to bite your lips, all too innocently
what else sings to you, lovely girl?
It’s the sunrise every morning and the sunset every evening
it’s genuinely believing that synchronicities have meaning
that magic is alive and real
and that one of the best things you can always do is feel
the mountains are admiring this smile on your face
while your fingers inspect the beautiful, intricate lace
in this moment, you’re happier than you’d like to confess
barefoot, and watching the golden light in this incredible dress
you’re standing here thinking about how beautiful life is and that you’re lucky to be here
that no matter what struggles you go through, you should never disappear
you’re strong, lovely girl
so hold on, this is your world.
I dedicate this poem to every single person who struggles with a mental illness. You’re not alone. You’re never alone. Last year was rough, and this one might be too.
